​Because of the increasing numbers of PUIs, a NO MASK NO ENTRY policy has also been implemented, social distancing is being strictly observed in all establishments, and a schedule for the procurement of basic needs will be strictly implemented in the different city districts starting today (March 25) to further control the number of people that are out and about.

As for the public transportation, all mass public transport facilities and systems still remain suspended except for the special taxi service that was established to cater to those people needing emergency medical care, PUJs that are being deployed as mode of transport for people going to the market and work, and motorcycles and bicycles with no "ANGKAS".

Sanitation tents are also being currently set up to be placed in different hospitals and health facilities and government offices in the city which aims to disinfect persons especially health workers, front liners and employees leaving the health facility.

Novel Coronavirus started in December 2019 that had spread around mainland China. It now affected the whole world, with 339,182 cases and 14,703 deaths. The latest news regarding COVID-19 in the country involves 4 patients in Baguio City, wherein 1 person has died. Further investigations are needed to confirm the real cause of the death of this individual.

The only confirmed case in Cordillera is the 39-year old Seaman from Abra Province. Others still need to undergo tests for confirmation. However, the government urged the Baguio doctors to do some measures to track down the infected patients, PUIs, and including those whom they interacted with.
As of now, Baguio enforces the curfew for minors starting from 9:00 PM to 4:00 AM.
According to Mayor of Baguio, Sir Benjamin Magalong, the doctors must do contact-tracing once they receive a red flag. He added, it takes 8-10 days to trace whether the tested persons are infected or not. That’s why precautions are needed.

The Mayor added, the deceased allegedly due to COVID-19 attended a gathering before death. Despite being ill, he resumed working while having contact with his co-employees. Moreover, some of them had transactions with two city officials. Those who have contracted with the deceased had undergone with 14-day quarantine.

DOH system work with the contact-tracing protocol only after the test confirmation. Magalong contradicts with the system, in which he pointed out. He said, “We need to be aggressive. If we have a red flag, we have to move quickly. Every day counts. Every hour matters.”

These facts were announced to Baguio City residents for public awareness. It will help them to start safety measures before the spreading of the virus. The city’s government advised people about good health and proper hygiene practices to strengthen the immune system and avoid coronavirus.

The city police director, Police Colonel Allen Rae Co, said that a lot of locals do not follow precautionary measures since they do not take the danger very seriously. According to the sources, there are still people roaming around and eating their meals from fast-food restaurants despite the Mayor’s announcement to the public.
The Mayor added, “Heeding the rules and staying indoors means you’re saving a life.” He also stressed that he didn’t want to cause panic or to escalate the quarantine, but according to him, the best way to contain the virus is through social distancing and community quarantine.
